The Amway Grand was supposed to be a luxurious experience, but I have ended up vowing to never stay there again. It is not the hotel's issue that Grand Rapids is a dull city to visit, especially in the winter, but the entire hotel was very cold. At the complimentary hors d'ouevres for the concierge floor a waitress summoned a manager to check if a 19 year old was having a few sips of alcohol when he was with parents and grandparents and then rudely interfered and threatened with repercussions. I have never been so shocked by hotel service. For several days we were also practically the only guests on the special floor--I was in disbelief that they would deal this way with guests they sorely needed. The restaurant on the 27th floor, Cygnus 27, was a horrible experience--half us sent back our meals they were so disgusting. For example, the sea bass tasted of ammonia. The restaurants on the lower floors were very nice (Grill at 1913, the sports bar, and Bentham's). The rooms are fairly nice, but pretty standard of a nice hotel. However, the walls are very thin and I could hear the tv next door word for word. I really did not want to dislike this hotel since it is a very convenient location for meeting family members, but there is too much to ignore.
